What is Dental Sedation?
Dental sedation is a term that refers to a number of techniques that are used to make patients more relaxed during dental procedures. Our dentists can help you decide if sedation dentistry is right for you.
We do everything we can at Elliott Dental Studio to make patients feel at ease and relaxed during their dental appointments. We will work at your pace, take breaks when needed, and provide calm reassurance as needed, in addition to offering sedation options.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide is breathed in through the nose and mouth. Even though patients are awake and able to communicate, the medication calms them. It also has the effect of reducing anxiety, increasing pain threshold, reducing gag reflex, and speeding up the passage of time.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedatives are pills or liquids that your dentist prescribes. The medication is taken prior to a dental appointment. It keeps you awake during the procedure but has a calming effect that allows you to relax.
General Anesthesia
During dental treatment, general anesthesia is a controlled state of unconsciousness that eliminates awareness, movement, and discomfort. In one appointment, complex treatments can be completed while you sleep.
Sedation Options for Children
When children require more intensive oral procedures they may become scared or anxious. We can provide sedation options for children who need it. Ask our dentists for more information before your child's appointment.
